Synopsis
Between training her new puppy, helping her sister with her baby, and searching for the perfect vintage dress for Kismet’s Valentine’s Day dance, home-stager Caprice De Luca has a lot on her to-do list.  But she’s never too busy to do a little staging, and she’s looking forward to thawing February’s frozen real estate market with her Hearts and Flowers Open House.  Her client Louise Downing’s romantically decorated home practically staged itself.  But when Louise is found murdered, Caprice is forced to turn her attention from sweethearts to suspects.  And as the truth comes out in stages, she discovers that Louise had more secrets than a box of chocolate truffles…

About This Author
Award winning and best-selling author, Karen Rose Smith’s plots are all about emotion. She began writing in her early teens when she listened to music and created stories to accompany the songs. An only child, she spent a lot of time in her imagination and with books–Nancy Drew, Zane Gray, The Black Stallion and Anne of Green Gables. She dreamed of brothers and sisters and a big family like her mother and father came from. This is the root of her plotlines that include small communities and family relationships as part of everyday living. Residing in Pennsylvania with her husband and four rescued cats, she welcomes interaction with readers on social media.
Interview

Where are you from?

I'm from York, Pennsylvania which is about an hour from Lancaster and an hour from Gettysburg.

Tell us your latest news?

My latest news is that there will be at least six books in the Caprice De Luca home staging mystery series.  GILT BY ASSOCIATION is mystery #3.  Caprice mystery #4, DRAPE EXPECTATIONS is due for release in August and mystery #5, SILENCE OF THE LAMPS in March of 2016. I have also contracted with Kensington for a second series, DAISY SWANSON'S TEA GARDEN mysteries due out in 2017.

When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing in 1984 when back pain changed my life.  I needed a creative and emotional outlet especially after surgery.  I was flat on my back on a hospital bed in our family room for 4 years.  Since I had been an English teacher, I turned to writing naturally. I began with short stories that grew longer and longer until I decided I should just write a full length novel.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I first considered myself a writer in high school when I worked on the school newspaper.  I also wrote poetry and was fortunate to have a poem published in the high school literary magazine.

What inspired you to write your first book?

After back surgery when physical therapy didn't rectify or help my back pain, I needed a coping mechanism.  Writing gave me that. When I delved into a story and its characters, I could escape for a while.  I'd read women's fiction for years, and it was organic for me to turn to storylines filled with relationships.  After the first book, I was hooked.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I suppose you could say I have a traditional writing style that centers around family and relationships.  I like to keep my characters realistic, like everyday people I know. I try to write about universal situations and emotions so that my readers can relate to them.

How did you come up with the title?

My editor came up with the title for GILT BY ASSOCIATION as well as DRAPE EXPECTATIONS. My agent came up with SILENCE OF THE LAMPS.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

My main message is that family can help us deal with anything...even murder.

What would you like my readers to know?

I'd like my readers to know that I appreciate each and every one of them.  GILT BY ASSOCIATION is my 86th published novel.  Branching out into the mystery genre has been both challenging and exciting.  I've found enthusiastic readers who are cheering me on.  I appreciate that support and hope to be writing both mystery as well as women's fiction and romance for a long time to come.
