Big Money by Jack Getze Giveaway Review and Guest Post

In this jaunty follow-up to Big Numbers, a scruffy stockbroker returns to tangle with mobsters, women and his own big mouth. The good news, as the story opens, is that the hero is in the company of a gorgeous naked lady. The bad news is that she’s pointing a shotgun at him. It’s a typical predicament for Austin Carr, a semi-shady New Jersey financial professional temporarily in charge of Shore Securities…He’s being extorted into opening a money-laundering account for local crime boss Bluefish; an auditor who was investigating his company has turned up murdered; a fetching state police captain figures he’s the key to her organized-crime probe; and his boss’s mother has been picked up for fixing her church bingo game.

Carr is continually getting into trouble over his weakness for breasts, his penchant for self-incriminating statements and his vestigial moral sensibility, which, like an appendix, makes itself felt at inconvenient times. — Kirkus Indie

Writers rarely have much say when it comes to making movies. Even famous scribes like Stephen King are generally ignored when films are made from their books. Film is a director's medium, not a writer's, and many famous novelists have even been banned from shooting sets.

Still, it's fun to imagine how your book would look on the big screen or television. And one of the most entertaining aspects is picking the actors and actresses. Who would be your leading lady? How about her multiple love interests?

I've known for a long time who my pick for Austin Carr would be. There are several actors I'm sure could act the part well, but Johnny Depp has always been the guy to play my series protagonist. He's handsome. You can see the ladies would like him, not only for his looks, but because he's a nice guy --mild tempered, easy-going. I first saw him in the 1984 classic horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street, but he didn't become a star until in the late 1980s on the Fox television series 21 Jump Street.  He was born in 1963 -- a decade before Austin -- but I see that as no problem for a talented actor.

Austin's sidekick in the series, bartender/club owner Luis Guerrero, is an important character, and one based on a real bartender I knew thirty years ago in Red Bank, New Jersey. Former Ozzy Osbourne bassist Robert Trujillo fits that mental image, even though his acting experience is limited. Trujillo, who began playing for Metallica in 2003, had minor roles in several films, including playing himself along with his band in the comedy hit Encino Man.

Lindsay Lohan should be the femme fatale in BIG MONEY, someone Austin calls Ms. Strawberry, a strange character to say the least. Ms. Strawberry is never what she seems. To describe her oddness is to give away story, but I think strange pretty well describes Ms. Lohan and you can often see it in her pictures. (No offense, Ms. Lohan. I'm weird myself, plus any woman who was a child fashion model at three, featured on a popular soap opera at ten, and a star of three straight Disney movie hits right after can expect to struggle growing up. I on the other hand have no excuse.

My Review:
This was a fantastic crime drama. It also made me laugh a few times. I enjoyed the Femme Fatale, and think that this is going to be a great series. I have read and reviewed the first book " Big Numbers" and knew that this book was going to be funny, and have crazy characters. The author has a knack for writing characters that are like your drunk friend. You know they are going to go wild. I also expected some mature situations. I can only compare this book to The Naked Gun series, and recommend that fans of those movies would love this book. My favorite part was the bingo scam. My only complaint is that I wish the ending did not leave me wondering about a third book. For me a series of books should be able to stand alone. However after saying that I can not wait to read book 3, and to see what crazy situations Austin gets in! I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.
