FIRST IN A NEW SERIES
Swimming into the lifeless body of her husband’s mistress tends to ruin a woman’s day, but becoming a murder suspect can ruin her whole life.
It’s 1974 and Ellison Russell’s life revolves around her daughter and her art. She’s long since stopped caring about her cheating husband, Henry, and the women with whom he entertains himself. That is, until she becomes a suspect in Madeline Harper’s death. The murder forces Ellison to confront her husband’s proclivities and his crimes—kinky sex, petty cruelties and blackmail.
As the body count approaches par on the seventh hole, Ellison knows she has to catch a killer. But with an interfering mother, an adoring father, a teenage daughter, and a cadre of well-meaning friends demanding her attention, can Ellison find the killer before he finds her.

About This Author
Julie Mulhern is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean—and she’s got an active imagination. Truth is—she’s an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions. She is a 2014 Golden Heart® Finalist. The Deep End is her first mystery and is the winner of The Sheila Award.

Interview

Where are you from?

I am from Kansas City, Missouri which also serves as the setting for The Deep End.

Tell us your latest news?

The Deep End is my first book and frankly I’m so excited about its release that there’s no room in my head for any other news!

When and why did you begin writing?

I got serious about writing fiction in 2012. Prior to that I was wrote articles for magazines and played around with fiction.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I think anyone who puts pen to paper and lets their creativity flow is a writer. Certainly anyone who plunks their butt in a seat and creates words is a writer – especially when their muse has decided to take a luxury vacation in Greece, leaving them at home with a grey winter sky and cold toes.

What inspired you to write your first book?

There’s a famous photographer – Slim Aarons – who made it through WWII then decided he only wanted to take pretty pictures of pretty people. He was incredibly successful in that goal. Looking at his photographs it’s almost impossible to believe that the people in them have problems. In The Deep End, I wanted to shine a light on pretty peoples’ problems.

Do you have a specific writing style?

The Deep End is told in first-person. My heroine is…snarky. Hopefully her inner monologue will leave readers smiling.

How did you come up with the title?

The book begins with my heroine, Ellison Russell, diving into a pool and discovering a body. The Deep End could be the deep end of the pool or the end of someone’s life.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

No matter what it looks like on the surface, everyone has problems.

What would you like my readers to know?

I hope they LOVE The Deep End. The second book in the Country Club Murders – Guaranteed to Bleed – will release in October of this year.
