Victoria Pinder

Victoria Pinder grew up in Irish Catholic Boston before moving to the Miami sun. She’s worked in engineering, after passing many tests proving how easy Math came to her. Then hating her life at the age of twenty four, she decided to go to law school. Four years later, after passing the bar and practicing very little, she realized that she hates the practice of law. She refused to one day turn 50 and realize she had nothing but her career and hours at a desk. After realizing she needed change, she became a high school teacher. Teaching is rewarding, but writing is a passion.
During all this time, she always wrote stories to entertain herself or calm down. Her parents are practical minded people demanding a job, and Victoria spent too many years living other people’s dreams, but when she sat down to see what skill she had that matched what she enjoyed doing, writing became so obvious. The middle school year book when someone wrote in it that one day she’d be a writer made sense when she turned thirty.
Besides her full time job of teaching, in 2013 and 2014, she sold on her own sold books to three different publishers. The Zoastra Affair, Chaperoning Paris, Borrowing the Doctor, and Electing Love will be published from Soul mate Publishing. Mything the Throne will be published with Double Dragon Ebooks. Favorite Coffee, Favorite Crush will be published with Jupiter Press.
Now she is represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency and she hopes to continue selling her novels that she writes. Moving up to the next level from hard work and determination is rewarding, and partnerships bring new opportunities.
Also she’s the Vice President of Programs for the Florida Romance Writers. She’s gone to multiple conferences and intends to continue. She learns and meets so many people at conferences. Her website is www.victoriapinder.com, and she’ll continue to grow my web presence. She is working hard on other projects and found the time to plan her wedding this year.
Before writing, her father had taken her to many star trek conventions and on her own she grew up as the only girl in the 90s at the comic book store. Science Fiction was her first love, but contemporary romance was her second. She’s sticking with contemporaries for the near future.
Member of Florida Romance Writers, Contemporary Romance, Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal chapter of RWA, Celtic Hearts and Savvy Authors.

Interview:
What inspired you to write your first book?
It’s never been published. It’s horrible. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. But I couldn’t find a book that hit the spot anymore. I wanted to write something I wanted to read.

Do you have a specific writing style?
We all have our own unique voice. I could never be Nora Roberts or Steven King. My voice is my own. I’m rebellious modern and very old fashioned at the same time. The paradox of my personality affects my writing.

How did you come up with the title?
Chaperoning Paris. I hate coming up with Titles. I write the whole novel them sit down with a list of words to describe the book. Then I talk titles over with friends. The trip is to Paris, and Gigi and Sean are chaperoning a bunch of high school students.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
That you choose your own happiness. No one can do anything to you if you don’t let them. And that you have the power to change your life.

How much of the book is realistic?
Billionaire ex boyfriends are of course entirely realistic, no? However the trip that the students and teachers go on are based on my own travel log in Paris. However post the schedule, no one put me in the 5 star anything or took the private jet out for my personal use. It’s sad, now that I think of it.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Cancer is something that runs rampant in my family. My grandmother had breast cancer in the 1980s and was one of 19 women that survived that year. She’s still very much alive. And I wanted the hero to have something that can be overcome. It can be a death sentence or it cannot. How you deal with it plays a role, at least in my view of my family. And Gigi’s mother forcing an abortion. I saw a few movies on the issue, and I had a college friend admit she had one. I’m far too much a good girl, but I absolutely believe that we should not be judging each other in this life.

What books have most influenced your life most?
I think books and genres come into our lives when we need them. Reading habits change. When I was sad and depressed, I loved Self Help books. When I was so busy with getting stuff done, I loved to read a historical romance of Julia Quinn. When I was slightly bored, I loved reading The DaVinci Code. To say one book changed me is wrong. I find the right book for just what I need when I need it. It’s why I like having options.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Heather Graham, but she wouldn’t know it. She’s one of the founders of Florida Romance Writers and a nice person. She has never read my stuff, but she’s always giving, always kind and will do anything anyone asks of her. I want to have her giving spirit.

What book are you reading now?
I am currently reading a Sophia Knightly’s book series. She gave me a book and I’ve read all her books since.

What would you like my readers to know?
Don’t be afraid to be who you are. No one else can. I absolutely believe there is no competition and that we can all change our own destiny.

  1. We like to have a sleepover - just a few good friends with the kids and everyone can relax, unwind, have a good time and no one is on the roads!
